Hello People,
On 9th and 10th of this month, An event was organized by our MozillaTN community named Mozilla Activate Campaign at SNS college of Technology, Coimbatore. The event is mainly focused on Add-ons development which really brings new contributors and fresh members to our Mozilla community.
I organized this event with Viswaprasath bro in the presence of 30 contributors. I initiated the event at 10:00 AM by giving a brief introduction on all tracks & it’s tools. This was my first experience to learn about Webextensions. Followed by the introduction part I welcomed the core contributors for bringing the detailed review on their tracks.
After the welcome note an introduction was given to all tracks. The tracks are,
- Webextensions which was explained by Viswaprasath
2.Mozilla WebVR which was explained by Monesh
2. MozillaQA which was explained by Surendharan
3. WebCompat which was explained by Nagaraj Naidu
4. Rust which was explained by Rajesh
finally I explained the Localization & Open Design.
Mean while, the newbies were instructed to do some basic steps to get involved in Mozilla community such as
- Registering their mozillians profile,
- Joining in our MozillaTN community channel in telegram & also in Mozilla India too
- Following our community in social media’s
- And learning how to write a blog etc….
Afternoon we had a hands on session on WebExtensions, Mr.Viswaprasath started this session with his experience in addons which was mind blowing , followed by the discussion on the addons developed by him like,
The session was too interactive and energetic. Contributors came up with amazing ideas such as
- Tab Close using browser Action.
- Social Share buttons.
- current page URL shorterner
- One click Google account logout
- Blocking some domains
- Erasing History
day one spent well with those amazing newbies and I’m really happy with their interesting towards Mozilla.
End of the day we took group photo
In the evening we planed for sight seeing around the city. I, Mr.Viswaprasath bro, Paarthipaabhalaji ( The person who is responsible for the opening of SNS club and A former club captain ), Surenthiran and Nagaraj Naidu went to Prozone mall, newly opened in Coimbatore. We spent our quality time by chit chatting there, then we had our dinner of unlimited spicy Biriyani there.
The host – The college provided us the guest house which was very comfortable for as to stay.
Second day,
The event was started a bit early by 9:30 AM and the contributors came for coding session. Viswaprasath bro delivered the basics to the newbies to develop addons from their own ideas.
- Sriram developed an add where we can logout from all our Google accounts. Find it in AMO. The API he used is browserAction.onClick and tabs.create.
- Nagaraja Naidu developed an add-on for shorterning the current page URL. Find it in AMO . He used browserAction UI and tabs API.
- Krithika showed partial demo of listing the current active tabs and closing them.
At same time newbies asked their queries in localization, how to make a blog, how to use the twitter etc…..
In between events I along with the organizers made a buzz in social media through various platforms by using this hashtag #SNSCTHack

Finally we ended up our session by 2:00PM
As a fact that “Mozilla never fails to amaze us ” yes I talk about swags! we distributed the swags and the ended the campaign.
I personally thank Surentharan for all the arrangements for the campaign.
